Greetings!
Welcome to our website, which features the Humpback Whales of Kennedy Entrance and Kachemak Bay, Alaska.
Beginning as a fledgling idea during the summer of 2001, our inventory of whales has since grown to include the identification and catalog of over 300 individual Humpback whales who have visited our northern waters.
The purpose of this online catalog is to provide information and data access to students, educators, researchers and other interested parties, in hopes of enhancing our collective, global understanding of these magnificent animals, with the ultimate goal of ensuring their survival.
This catalog would not be possible without the personal commitment and endless support of Fran Quinlan and Captain Jack Montgomery, and their vessel, the M/V Rainbow Connection. Thank you for all you do!

Please note that the documentation of these Humpback whales has been, and is, on a strictly voluntary basis without the use of a permit. Our research is governed by the Marine Mammal Viewing Guidelines provided by the National Marine Fisheries Service.
